This Saturday we kick things off with a huge bang in the form of blues favourites The Spikedrivers. Their music has been described as 'haunting', 'gutsy', 'tribal' and even psychedelic. Blues in Britain says, “From the first note, Spikedrivers demand to be listened to.” Guitarist Ben Tyzack, Bassist Constance Redgrave and percussionist Maurice McElroy are a new sound of transatlantic blues.
From the early blues of Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker and Big Bill Broonzy they have added their own blend of north African and Native American rhythms, gospel harmonies, sixties blues and rock guitar. They’ve been compared to The Band, Led Zeppelin, Ry Cooder, JJ Cale, Pentangle, Fleetwood Mac and even Pink Floyd. It all adds up to simply the Spikedrivers.
With their high energy show, Spikedrivers have been burning up European festival stages. They’ve gained rave reviews at the Chedigny Blues Festival, Cognac Blues Passions, Lugano Blues to Bop Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, and the Jazz Rallye de Luxembourg to name just a few.
