The Imperial College Big Band returns to Jazz Café POSK this June with a new programme ranging from classic Count Basie swing hits to the funk and fusion of Pat Metheny!
Directed by Chris Dean (of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra), the band made up from Imperial College science, engineering and medical students is gaining a reputation as a leading force within the UK student jazz scene. The band enjoys regular performances to a wide range of audiences, including sold-out shows at Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho and Hammersmith's very own Jazz Café POSK.
In recent years, the band’s popularity has even begun to grow outside of the UK, with invitations from the Montreux International Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival and even a hit gigs at the Kunstfabrik Schlot jazz club (Berlin) and the MOE club (Madrid).
Recently, the band has been fortunate to collaborate with other student jazz ensembles, travelling to Oxford to battle the Oxford University Jazz Orchestra as well as welcoming Durham University Big Band for another showdown in London. The band even staged Imperial's very first 'Strictly Come Dancing' event this March, supplying a whole programme of dance music, across 10 styles in association with Imperial College Dance Society.
